Numa Bischof Ullmann has been the artistic and executive director of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra since 2004. In 2020 he has founded the International Piano Festival “Le Piano Symphonique”. During his tenure, the orchestra has become one of the leading Swiss orchestras performing in first-class venues all over Europe and Asia and records for global labels. His commitments to new music is strong and as result of this, numerous commissions for new works have been given to a wealth of composers.
He also developed a new entrepreneurial approach to financing a cultural institution. He has been teaching as a guest professor at the arts management faculty of University of Zürich as well as of Music Academy of Lucerne. He regularly acts as a jury member for competitions and award-giving institutions in Europe and the USA and serves on a number of charity foundations active in the field of music and the arts.
